Targa T-Mat

Cost effective sound deadening with proven results

Targa T-Mat is the latest sound deadening product on offer from Targa Audio. It is available in both Bulk Packs (10 sheets) or per sheet. The pricing ranges from R150 per sheet to R1300 per Bulk Pack. This makes it one of the most cost effective sound deadening solutions on the market in South Africa. Make no mistake, other companies will market a cheaper product but it does not come close in performance to the Targa T-Mat. Most other deadening products are asphalt based which is essentialy roof flashing and is not designed to dampen vibrations, reduce resonance or increase sound quality and SPL levels.

At Payntwagon Audio we did a comparitive test between one of the most famous products on the SA market and Targa T-Mat. Below are the findings.

Dimension Comparison:
T-Mat per Sheet = 95cm x 50.5cm
Other leading sound deadening product per sheet = 80.5cm x 45.5cm

Thus coverage per bulk pack:
T-Mat = 10 sheets = 47.975 sq.m
Other leading sound deadening product = 9 sheets = 32.964 sq.m
T-Mat has 45.5% more coverage

Then we measured the thickness of each sheet. We did this by taking a measurement with the Vernier on each side of the sheet and then averaging those values. The vernier was placed at a 45 degree angle to the side we measured to ensure that we do not just measure a thick spot or folded edge.

T-Mat side thickness = 1.8mm, 1.6mm, 2.0mm, 2.2mm = 1.9mm
Other leading sound deadening product side thickness = 1.9mm, 1.5mm, 1.6mm, 2.0mm = 1.75mm
T-Mat is 8.57% thicker

Next we measured each sheet's foil thickness. The vernier we used is accurate to 0.02mm. Once again we used the same area of the vernier for both tests and measure the thickness over the diagonal of the test pieces. we flattened the edges as much as possible by hand to stop any rounding of edges due to the cut.

T-Mat foil thickness = 0.1mm
Other leading sound deadening product foil thickness = 0.14mm
T-Mat has 40% thinner foil

Next we weighed each sheet. We folded the sheets to equal widths of about 20cm and placed them on a kitchen scale, layed flat so we can not touch them. We zeroed the scale before each test.

T-Mat weight = 1.63kg
Other leading sound deadening product weight = 1.03kg
T-Mat is 58% heavier

Cost of each sheet. (Using the bulk pack price and deviding by the amount of sheets in it.

T-Mat = R150 per sheet
Other leading sound deadening product = R350 per sheet
T-Mat is 58.15% cheaper

So final results and conclusion.

In all the tests the T-Mat won, accept for the thikness of the foil.

So for 52.66% less cost you get 45.5% more coverage and 58% more weight for each sheet of T-Mat compared to the other leading product.
